"Affordable, steak and quality" do not usually belong in the same sentence, especially in New York City. St. Anselm is one of the few exceptions.
St. Anselm is a neighborhood restaurant service various grilled dishes including a Butcher's Steak and a Whole Trout Dish. The menu is configured with "Bigs from the Grill" and "Smalls from the Grill." "Bigs" include steaks, fish and lamb dishes. If you want to be more adventurous, you can order a few "Smalls from the Grill" including artichoke hearts and grilled clams. The menu is a la carte, and all sides are extra. I personally the fingerling potatoes. The dessert menu is exceptional, with many options. I personally recommend ordering the Pot De Crème, which is similar to a chocolate pudding with salted caramel and whipped cream. If you are looking for a quick in-and-out meal, St. Anselm is not ideal. Wait times are frequently over two hours. If you are willing to wait for some of the best steaks in Williamsburg (watch out Peter Luger's) then check out St. Anselm.
